NOW we prepare how to setup Squidoo Lens. In another attempt to get some search engine ranking. Setting up Squidoo lens will add another backlink to our blog as well as our articles, to hopefully boost their ranking as well. We’ll talk about how to do this shortly.
Set Up Your Squidoo Lens
Setting up a Squidoo lens for your long tail keywords is the next part of this plan. Squidoo not only provides linkbacks to your articles, but it gives an additional chance to be ranked highly in the search engines for your long tail keyword.
Setting up a Squidoo lens is not difficult. It might take a little longer than 20 minutes the first time you do it, but here is what is basically going to happen.
1.) You’re going to register your Squidoo lens with your longtail keyword.
2.) You’re going to take your re-written article and put it into your lens.
3.) You’re going to linkback to your EzineArticles and your blog.
4.) You’re going to publish your lens.
That’s it. It’s not hard, so let’s first get you setup with Squidoo. First things first, we will need to register (unless you already have an account, which will speed things up even more. Go to the registration page and fill in all of your personal information.
After you confirm your e-mail address, go ahead and create a lens. When it asks what your lens is about, enter your long tail keyword. So, if your long tail keyword is “Voice mail over the internet,” enter it exactly: Next, choose “I want to do my own thing.” After that, you’ll be able to formally make the name of your lens. Try to make it the keyword with dashes, exactly, as you see here…
Also pick the category that is most relevant for the long tail keyword. For “Internet Voicemail,” our topic is “Computers, Gadgets and Tech.”
What if the keyword you want isn’t available? That’s easy…try different variations of it. For example: voicemailovertheinternet to be voice_mail_over_the_internet
If you’re really unlucky and neither of those are available, then we’ll have to go for a variation of the long tail keyword. Tack on a word to the front or end of the long tail keyword.
There’s probably over 1000 different variations you could choose from. Now that we have the lens title nailed down, let’s move on to the next page… The next step asks you to select keywords that are relevant to your lens.
Our primary keyword is the long tail keyword, and the other 3 keywords are general keywords based around your topic. If you really can’t think of any, go back to the Google Keyword Tool and choose keywords that are higher on the list when you search for your primary keyword. Now that we’ve got all that covered…It’s time to actually create the lens. First, edit the introduction. For the “Lens Intro Title,” just use the long tail keyword again.
For the description, just write up a very quick three sentence blurb explaining internet voicemail and using the long tail keyword once. For example… “Welcome to this lens! Voice Mail Over The Internet is a new phenomenon – the ability to check your voice mail from anywhere has a lot of people talking. I’ve done some research about internet voicemail and I’d love to share my results with you. Keep reading…”
That would work just fine. Nothing elaborate. You can write up something like that in 2 minutes. Next, we’re going to add another module by clicking the “add modules” button at the bottom. Go ahead and click it… Now, choose the “Text/Write Module.” Now, add the “Links List” by clicking the “add unique content” tab at the top.
Then, click the “add modules” button. Now, you should see a screen like this…
Now, let’s click on the edit button on the Text/Write Module. The title should be the long tail keyword (yes, again) and the subtitle should be the actual title you chose for the rewritten article you created. Paste the body of the rewritten article into the box, and then click “save.”
Easy enough, right? This is tips for you. If you want to take a minutes to make your lens more visually appealing? Search google for free image sites and upload them to your Squidoo lens! Now we’re going to add some links to your lens under the link list module. The first link should be to your blog. The title should be your broad keyword. You don’t need to enter a description or subtitle.
Add three or more links. What you’re going to do is link to a random three of your EzineArticles articles. If they aren’t yet published, write yourself a note to go back and edit your lens when they are published.
So, if your EzineArticles article title was “the truth about voice mail over the internet,” the link title should be “voice mail over the internet.” What you’ll want to do here is keep track of how much you link to each article. You don’t want all of your lens pointing to the same 3 articles…remember, when you complete this entire process you’ll have at least 20 squidoo lens active.
Mix it up and make it so each one of your articles has at least a couple backlinks from your various Squidoo lenses. Hopefully this makes sense!
OK, once you’ve added the links and the article to your Squidoo lens…it’s time to publish it! Make sure it’s active by going to the proper URL. It will look like this…
http://www.squidoo.com/your_primary_keyword_here
Go through and make sure that all the links are active and work properly. If it’s active, great! What we need to do next is quickly edit your “My Bio” box on the right side of the lens. Write up something quick and set it as your default bio. “I’m so-and-so, I’m an expert on internet voicemail! Visit my blog here!” or something silly like that will work just fine –you can link to your blog in your bio in the same manner you linked to it in the text module, using the “a href” HTML tags. We’re all set for the next part…
